The Susquehanna SPCA is committed to bringing about a time when there are no more homeless animals and every companion animal is guaranteed a loving home. We work to accomplish this goal through our spay/neuter, adoption, and education programs.
On November 21, 2018 we launched our SHELTER US Campaign to build a much-needed new shelter that meets modern shelter guidelines. A $500,000 competitive grant from New York State jump started the project. In June of 2021, we moved into our brand-new state-of-the-art facility.
Our new building is fit with an industry-leading HVAC filtration system to improve biosecurity and the overall health of the animals in our care. Our kennels and animal-holding areas are designed to provide comfort to every species with ample opportunity for them to hide, relax, and interact with visitors. Our facility was designed with volunteers and adopters in mind, creating a smooth flow where they can meet animals in quiet, low-stress areas.
Our team is constantly working to improve the lives of the animals in our care as well as those in the community who need assistance. We welcome adoptable animals through surrender, transfer, and also those found stray who are not able to be reunited with their owners. Additionally, we work closely with local law enforcement to prevent and address animal cruelty in our area.
One of our main focuses is working with the public to educate them on how to properly care for their animals, how to spot and address animal cruelty, and to provide the resources people need to keep their pets. We are proud to be offering low-cost, income based, spay/neuter surgeries for both dogs and cats in the very near future, as well as wellness services.
Every animal adopted from our shelter is altered, up to date on vaccinations, and also receives any medical care needed. Animals are adopted through our adoption counseling process where our staff members work with potential adopters to find the perfect fit for their home.
