COOPERSTOWN – The Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is excited to announce that it will host a feline low cost spay/neuter clinic on Friday, February 15, 2018. This clinic is being held in collaboration with Dr. Joan Puritz and Dr. Bret Meckel and is open to the public. It will take place at the shelter, located at 4841 State Highway 28 between Cooperstown and Oneonta.

“February is nationally recognized as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month,” explained Susquehanna SPCA Executive Director Stacie Haynes. “We want to help animals in need beyond the walls of our shelter and raise awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering cats to reduce unwanted populations. This is a perfect opportunity to expand our services while helping offset the price of these procedures.”

The Susquehanna SPCA will donate profits from this event to a local partner, the Greater Oneonta Fund for Animal Responsibility (GOFAR). GOFAR is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to reducing the number of homeless, unwanted, and euthanized animals in the greater Oneonta area through education, raising funds to help finance the costs of spaying and neutering, helping strays (trap, neuter, release), and by helping local shelters. “We are grateful to the folks at GOFAR for all their good work and proud to call GOFAR a partner organization. They give so much and are instrumental in helping reduce the unwanted pet population in our region. This is a way to give something back to them,” Haynes said.

The February 15 feline low cost spay/neuter clinic has 40 spots available for 25 males and 15 females which can be secured by calling the Susquehanna SPCA at (607) 547-8111, extension 102. Appointments will be filled on a first call, first serve basis. The fee per cat is $60 and includes a spay/neuter with sedation, dewormer, rabies and distemper vaccinations, flea treatment, a nail trim, and an ear clean.
